Amy and Luke celebrated their beautiful Mornington Peninsula wedding at Luke’s parents’ home in Mt. Eliza. I have to say this up-front – I LOVE home weddings. They’re always so cosy and intimate and the huge effort that goes into getting someone’s house ready to host a big event like a wedding is always amazing.
Hard to find a groom more laid back than Luke, and in between photographing all the details that everyone had added around the property, I did manage to get a few shots of Luke getting ready, and a couple of portraits. With a stream of well-wishers coming to say hi, I headed off to see how Amy and the girls were going down in Mt Martha.
A beautiful 2-piece dress was hanging in the bedroom, and hair and make up were in the final stages when I arrived to meet with Amy and her Mum, sister and nephew, who was getting ready to walk Amy down the aisle. A very calm atmosphere, and having no bridal party usually means things are a little calmer. We had lots of time, but as always it telescopes in and before you know it, you’re ready to head to the ceremony. I think I did start to detect a little nervousness before I left – isn’t that normal for a wedding day?
Back at Mt. Eliza guests were steadily arriving as for this awesome Mornington Peninsula wedding. I said hello to the lovely Nola Coulthurst who was conducting the ceremony in front of around 50 friends and family. Outside in the garden where Luke’s arbor provided the backdrop. Amy arrived, accompanied by her nephew down the aisle, to a nervous and very happy Groom Luke. Some very thoughtful vows followed a ring blessing, and then after a kiss, a smile, and some signatures that was it – they were married.
Because of the fading light in Melbourne at this time of the year, we made a quick exit down to a secret Mornington Peninsula beach location, and grabbed some great shots in the sunlight and sunset. It was deserted, sunny, windy, cold, and absolutely beautiful. We found an old wicker chair that had washed up – how can you not use that for some unique wedding shots?
Then it was time to get a brave and cold bride back to the car and home to have a great time with all the rest of the guests. Fires, candles, and good company were keeping everyone cosy, and before I headed off under a clear and cold late Autumn Melbourne sky.
