In January 2019 I was asked by Jen and Lara to photograph their big day when they tied the knot in front of 100 or so friends and family, in a park near their home in Melbourne's bayside suburbs. It was an absolute honour and a privilege, and after meeting up, chatting back and forward over a few months about locations, I was so pleased to photograph one of my first same-sex Melbourne weddings.
Jen and Lara very much wanted to start their party straight after the ceremony, so I worked with their plan of getting their bridal shots together before the ceremony. This was also made easier by them not having a bridal party.
After some getting ready shots at home - especially including the special furry friends that share their home - it was off to a few carefully chosen locations for the pre-wedding shots.
It was a stunning Summer day, and it was just so relaxing and cruisy just being the three of us, hitting a few locations like a graffiti mural that has special significance to the couple, as well as the beautiful beach just down the road. Hope I didn't keep you out there in the sun too long! And I have to give huge props to Jen and Lara for their willingness to climb over rocks, through sand, and down to the edge to get the shots they were after - absolutely awesome.
Then it was on to the park to touch base with celebrant Rachel Parker, make sure everything was ready to go, and wait for Jen and Lara (who'd headed off to refresh themselves in some air-con). I was stoked to be covering another same-sex Melbourne wedding and working with such a lovely couple.
Thanks again Jen and Lara for the opportunity to work with you on your big day - congratulations again :)
